The Social Media Revolution is in fact being televised...

The revolution is in fact being televised. As an introduction to the Users Panel of the Content on the Multilingual Web Workshop in Pisa, Paula Shannon from Lionbridge shared the following video with the participants to kick off the topic of the present and future of Social Media. I want to share it here because I believe this concept of a “Social Media Revolution” is fundamental in describing how Social Media Optimization (SMO) and Social SEO are shaping the world of Multilingual Web Content. 78% of content uploaded to WIKIPEDIA is not in English. These concepts explained in greater detail in her presentation at the same panel: Nascent Best Practices of Multilingual SEO.

  1. From the Telegraph newspaper 2009 - Just thought it was amusing. The social media revolution is going nowhere
Social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter, MySpace were hailed as the future of the internet but it will be a long time before they reach their full potential.
During this transition period, the old-fashioned companies that sustain growth and innovation will need to realise that these sites are just intermediaries, but the true power of the web is that it gives businesses the opportunity to talk directly to customers.
